- Zhong Tang (big piece). This is the painting usually hung on the wall facing the entrance. Chinese building are different from western buildings. There is a wall facing the main entrance of the building.
- Scroll. This is the most common Chinese painting form.
- Small piece. This form of Chinese painting is used for decoration of a small area.

Chinese painting can be done on all kinds of mediums. The oldest medium is stone. Ancient Chinese people had Chinese paintings painted on stone walls. Actually other countries also have stone wall paintings. Chinese painting can also done on silk, pottery, porcelain and wood. Of course the most important and commonly used medium for Chinese painting is Xuan paper. Xuan paper is the traditional and idea medium to do Chinese brush paintings.
